Occasional fasting, which asks you not to consume food for 16 hours to several days, is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to lose weight. You can see here what a month of intense fasting has done to Brendan’s body.

Brendan Jones from the popular Goal Guys YouTube channel wanted to try a variation of this intense fasting. Jones ate every other day and post his results on their channel.

He first did a complete body scan to get all the details on the chemical composition of his body and to be able to compare body changes after a month of fasting. Brendan shared the whole process with channel followers in a new video.

On the days he ate, the morning began with scrambled eggs and tofu and whole-grain toast and some brown beans, and for lunch, he ate quinoa and broccoli salad with sweet potatoes.

He tried to maintain his usual physical activity with interval workouts, planks, cardio, and weight training to build muscle mass. Also, in those days he forced himself more so that on days of intense fasting he could reduce the intensity of exercise.

After a week he lost almost two and a half pounds, but in his own words, it was mostly water. Although most ideas of an all-day fast would probably seem like torture, it was not too difficult for him. His worst period was usually between 6 pm and 8 pm, but he was comforted by the fact that he would go to sleep soon and would already be able to eat for breakfast.

“I knew the food would come in the morning and that was the only thing that mattered to me,” Brendan said.

At one point, the experiment came into question because he got sick. He started eating only one meal because he could not go to the gym, but still managed to lose a total of 6.5 pounds in 30 days and reduce body fat by four percent.

At the end of the experiment, Jones recreated a full-body scan, and the results showed that of the lost weight, nearly 4 and a half pounds were fat, and one kilogram was related to muscle mass.

According to these results, it can be seen that intermittent fasting and its variations are not a tool that can lose weight while maintaining muscle mass.

At the end of the video, Jones concluded that he was satisfied with the experiment and that this type of fasting helped him reduce his appetite and hunger and feel more focused and concentrated.

He stated that in the future he was likely to try some less intense variation of fasting, such as the 16: 8 model. He says this was too stressful given that he was also engaging in relatively intense physical activity.
