The oldest golden retriever in the world celebrated its 20th birthday, which is impressive, having in mind that the average life expectancy of that breed is 10 to 12 years.
August, golden retriever, who owners Jennifer and Steve call Ogi, turned 20. She celebrated it with a cake and friends. He has been living in the home of the married couple, in Auckland (Tennessee), since she was 14. Thanks to their care, she managed to live to be much older than most dogs of this breed.
According to the organization “Goldhearth Golden Retrievers Rescue” in Tennessee, there were examples of golden retrievers living up to 17 or 18 years – but Oggy is still something special.
She celebrated her birthday with a carrot cake adapted for dogs, and she also played with other dogs: Sherman, Bele, and Bruce.
Although it is in “serious years”, its owners claim that they still enjoy daily walks with August.
Ogi regularly takes supplements and eats a special mixture of wet and dry dog food that was prescribed to her. After the kidney problems, they started when she was 14 years old.
