They Were Best Friends For 17 Years And Then Found Out They Were Sisters

When they learned the details of their parents’ past, they immediately realized that something was missing in the whole story.

Best friends Ashley Thomas, 31, and Latoja Wimberly, 29, have a lot in common. As children, they had identical tooth spacing, high cheekbones, and the same skin complexion, and even wore the same number of shoes. They have been interested in fashion and have been listening to the same music. They have always had an “unbreakable relationship” since they started hanging out at a party in 2004. Seventeen years later, they are still close, and not a day has passed without at least a phone call between them. They joked around and called themselves sisters. This February it turned out that they are really biological sisters, CNN reports.

How did they find out they were sisters

The dice began to roll in January when Latoya celebrated her engagement. Ashley posted a photo of herself on Facebook, and in some of the pictures was Latoy’s father, Kenneth Wimberly. He was recognized by a friend of Ashley’s mother and immediately told that her mother and Lato’s father have had something in the past.

She told her that her mother used to hang out with my dad when they were young. When Ashley told me that, I knew something didn’t fit. I asked her to send me a photo of that friend, so I showed it to my dad and he recognized it right away – Latoja’s said.

He then recognized Ashley’s mother and admitted that the two had a brief relationship. Then he found out Ashley didn’t know who her biological father was, so he wondered if it could be him. That’s why the three of them decided to pay for the DNA test together.

The results were finalized on February 21 and confirmed their doubts – Kenny was Ashley’s father.

“I was at work when Kenny called me and told me he was my father. The whole thing made me laugh. I couldn’t think. Couldn’t handle it. Couldn’t speak, ”Ashley said.

Many unanswered questions

Ashley was 15 when she was told that the man who raised her was not her biological father. Her mother, who died 11 years ago, never told her who her real father could be, and family members of the two best friends had never met, which is why the issue had not been raised before.

Still, Kenneth treated Ashley as if he were her father.

Ashley is the only one of my friends who has never missed a family event. She was very close to my whole family. If Daddy drove me to town, Ashley would come with me. When someone asked him “who are these girls” he would say “they are my girls”. If she had a car problem or needed any help, she would always contact my dad. But somehow our families never met, ”Latoja said.

For Ashley, this discovery, she says, was both “beautiful” and “incredibly emotional”.

I have so many questions for my mom and I will never get answers. Did she know he was my father? Kenny was like a father to me. He was always there for me, and I had no idea he could be my real father. It feels strange. It’ll probably take me a while to figure it out. I’m still in disbelief. But I want him to be part of his grandchildren’s life, ”says Ashley, who has two children.

Latoya, on the other hand, is happy that they are officially sisters, but she feels guilty that Kenneth was more in her than in Ashley’s life.

“I watched Ashley go through a lot of things growing up and now I’m just thinking about how her father was here and how he could be with her as he was with me,” Latoya says.

Kenneth rejoices that there is a mutual desire between him and Ashley to strengthen their relationship and says he already “loves her like a daughter” and can’t wait to get to know his grandchildren better.
